Harry Maguire: Spot in England unsure as Man United's playing time affects

The world's most expensive defender, Maguire, was acquired by United for £80 million ($100.97 million), yet despite being made the team captain, the centre back is no longer the club's first choice.
 
With only seven league starts this year, Maguire has slipped behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order. Even left back Luke Shaw has started in centre defence.
 
"Inevitably it's not a situation that can continue forever," said Southgate
 
"Of course the longer that situation goes on the more concerning it is and we've got, in Marc Guehi, Lewis Dunk, Tyrone Mings, players who are playing well without the same experiences of club European football or international football.
 
"But we've got to keep searching for competition in that area of the pitch."
 
Raheem Sterling was not included in England's squad for the next Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta. Sterling has been an important member of Southgate's team ever since he took over as manager.
 
In his first season at Chelsea, Sterling has had difficulty maintaining consistency, and Southgate said that the player has been impacted by the club's many changes.
