Harry Maguire, the Manchester United and England centre-back, has announced that he will be sidelined for "a few weeks" due to an injury sustained during a recent match. The injury occurred in the first half of United's goalless draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday. After experiencing discomfort, Maguire was substituted at halftime and was later seen leaving Villa Park wearing a protective boot.
Expressing his frustration over the setback, the 31-year-old took to Instagram to share his thoughts, stating, "Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend; it will be a few weeks on the sideline for me, but I'll come back stronger." His absence will undoubtedly be felt by both Manchester United and the England national team.
As a result of his injury, Maguire was not selected for Lee Carsley's England squad, which is preparing for upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and Finland. This is particularly disappointing for Maguire, who had already missed the Euro 2024 tournament due to a prior calf issue.
Despite the injury, Maguire has had a decent season thus far, appearing nine times for United and even scoring in a recent Europa League match against Porto. Manchester United's next fixture is set for 19 October when they will host Brentford at Old Trafford.
