Harry Kane Marks 100th England Cap with Double in 2-0 Nations League Win

Posted : 11 September 2024

Harry Kane celebrated his 100th appearance for England with a stellar performance, netting twice in a 2-0 victory over Finland in the Nations League on Tuesday. His impressive double in the second half at Wembley marked a significant milestone in his illustrious career, as he became the 10th player to achieve a century of caps for the national team, joining legends like David Beckham and Bobby Moore.

At 31 years old, Kane has become the third England player to score on his 100th cap, following Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton. He now has 68 goals for his country, having surpassed records previously held by other greats. Kane's ongoing form and dedication mirror the longevity of international stars like Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, hinting that he may surpass England's all-time cap and goal records held by Peter Shilton and Rooney.

The night was also significant for interim England manager Lee Carsley, who has overseen two victories since taking over from Gareth Southgate. Carsley’s tactical approach contrasts with Southgate's more conservative style, and his early successes have positioned him as a potential permanent candidate. His debut saw a 2-0 win against Ireland, and this match, while less dynamic, continued to show promise under his leadership.

Kane’s performance included a stunning strike in the 58th minute, where he converted Trent Alexander-Arnold's pass with a powerful shot that hit the underside of the crossbar. He added a second goal in the 76th minute, finishing a cross from Noni Madueke. The evening ended with Kane receiving a standing ovation as he was substituted, capping off a memorable celebration of his milestone.
