Hale End product Nwaneri scores in Arsenal’s 7-1 PSV win

Posted : 05 March 2025

Arsenal’s young talent, Ethan Nwaneri, made a memorable impact in their emphatic 7-1 triumph over PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of the 2025 UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

At just 17 years and 346 days old, he became the second-youngest player in the club’s history to feature in a Champions League knockout stage, following the path of former Arsenal star Cesc Fàbregas.

Nwaneri also joined an elite group of teenagers to score in a Champions League knockout match, becoming the third-youngest ever, a record shared with Bojan Krkić and Jude Bellingham.

His goal came in the 21st minute after linking up brilliantly with fellow Hale End Academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly, who provided the assist for the teenager’s composed finish.

The duo’s combination further showcased the potential of Arsenal’s youth system, as their chemistry on the pitch continues to excite both fans and coaches.

Jurrien Timber, Mikel Merino, Martin Ødegaard (twice), Leandro Trossard, and Riccardo Calafiori also found the net for Arsenal, while Noa Lang grabbed a consolation goal for PSV.

Nwaneri’s rapid rise has been closely monitored by Mikel Arteta, who has praised his composure and technical ability, with many now seeing him as one of the most promising young players in European football.
