Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam have officially acquired Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough FC, as confirmed on their website.
Ajax is paying Middlesbrough a transfer fee of €12.3 million (around N10.4 billion) with the potential for an additional €2 million through performance-related bonuses.
Akpom, a Hale End Academy graduate from Arsenal, has inked a five-year contract, extending his stay with Ajax until the 2027-2028 season.
This move comes after widespread interest from various English, French, and German clubs.
Despite having one year left on his contract, Middlesbrough opted to accept Ajax's offer to avoid losing Akpom on a free transfer next season.
His remarkable performance in the 2022-2023 season, tallying 28 goals in 38 regular-season matches, earned him the Championship's Golden Boot and Player of the Year awards.
Akpom, who previously had loan spells at various clubs including Brentford and Hull City, also stood out at Arsenal and later PAOK in Greece before joining Middlesbrough in 2020.
