Hajduk Split snubbed record-making Super Eagles star despite heroics

Posted : 05 July 2023
Chidozie Awaziem, the talented Super Eagles defender, has returned to his parent club Boavista as he gears up for the upcoming season, following a remarkable stint in Croatia with Hajduk Split.

Awaziem's loan spell at Hajduk Split in the Croatian top flight proved to be a fruitful one, with the 26-year-old making a significant impact on their campaign.

Displaying his defensive prowess and making notable offensive contributions, Awaziem left a lasting impression.

Over the course of 28 league appearances, he found the back of the net an impressive five times and even provided an assist, showcasing his versatility and attacking instincts from the backline.

In doing so, Awaziem achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new record as the highest-scoring defender in Hajduk Split's history within the Croatian top flight, highlighting his ability to make a meaningful impact in the final third while maintaining defensive solidity.

Awaziem played an instrumental role in Hajduk Split's triumphant journey to clinch the Croatian Cup, securing their eighth title in the competition's history.

His consistent performances and unwavering commitment undoubtedly played a significant part in the team's success, making him an invaluable asset to the squad.

Despite his commendable efforts and the positive impression he left, Hajduk Split has made the decision not to extend Awaziem's stay at the club, choosing against offering him a permanent deal.

As a result, the Nigerian defender has returned to Boavista, his parent club, where he will resume preparations for the upcoming season.

In addition to Awaziem, Boavista eagerly anticipates the arrival of Bruno Onyemaechi, another promising Super Eagles newcomer, as they strive to assemble a strong and competitive squad for the forthcoming campaign.

The club's preseason preparations will provide an opportunity for Awaziem to showcase his skills, further develop his game, and contribute to Boavista's aspirations for success in domestic and potentially international competitions.

It's important to note that Awaziem initially joined Boavista on loan from Porto in 2020 before the move was made permanent in 2021 for a fee of €5 million, underlining the faith and confidence the club has in his abilities.

As Awaziem embarks on his preseason preparations with Boavista, he will be eager to build upon his impressive performances, continue his upward trajectory, and solidify his position as a key figure within the team.

With his skills, experience, and determination, Awaziem aims to make significant contributions to Boavista's quest for glory in the upcoming season and beyond.
