The Haitian Women's National Team is set to make history as the second Caribbean country to qualify for a FIFA Women's World Cup. They will make their debut on July 22 in Australia against European Champions England, after being placed in Group B alongside Denmark and China.
To reach the Australia/New Zealand 2023 tournament, Haiti had a challenging journey, finishing third in Group A at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship. They then advanced to the Inter-Confederation Playoffs in New Zealand, where they secured a 2-1 victory against Chile, securing their spot in the World Cup.
Haiti's star player and legend of Haitian football, Melchie Dumornay, played a crucial role in their success. She has been a key player since her youth, winning the Golden Boot in the Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship in 2020.
Dumornay's performances have been instrumental, earning her the Best Young Player Award and a place in the tournament's Best XI at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship.
Other players like Roselord Borgella, Nerilia Mondesir, and Sherly Jeudy have also made significant contributions to the team's success. Borgella scored two crucial goals against Senegal in the playoffs, while Mondesir and Jeudy have been important in attack.
With history in their sights, Haiti will head to Australia to showcase their style of play and prove their worth on the world stage in their first-ever Women's World Cup appearance.
