Erling Haaland's penalty was saved by Jordan Pickford as Manchester City were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Everton at the Etihad Stadium, continuing their tough run in the Premier League. The result marked another setback for Pep Guardiola's side, who have now won just one of their last 13 games across all competitions. City are in a rare slump, currently sitting sixth in the table, trailing leaders Liverpool by 11 points and three behind Nottingham Forest in fourth.
The match began with an early scare for City, as Josko Gvardiol's powerful header in the third minute struck the post. However, they took control of the game, with Bernardo Silva opening the scoring in the 14th minute.
Silva's goal, a deflected shot after a pass from Jeremy Doku, gave City the advantage, though they should have extended their lead shortly afterward. Phil Foden's pass to Silva in the box saw the Portuguese forward miss an open chance, firing wide of the post.
Everton, with their first real opportunity, equalized in the 36th minute. Iliman Ndiaye showcased his skill, controlling Abdoulaye Doucoure's cross and curling a brilliant finish into the far corner, leaving City stunned. The hosts had a chance to regain the lead early in the second half when Vitalii Mykolenko fouled Savinho in the area, but Pickford's excellent save denied Haaland from the penalty spot.
Despite continued pressure, City failed to break down Everton's defense and settle for a disappointing draw. Their last victory came on December 4th against Nottingham Forest, and the team now faces increasing scrutiny over their form as they slip further behind in the Premier League race.
