Manchester City's Erling Haaland delivered on his promise to Premier League legend Didier Drogba by replicating Drogba's iconic celebration after netting two goals against Young Boys. The 22-year-old striker, who narrowly missed out on the Ballon d'Or, was awarded the Gerd Muller Trophy for being the most prolific striker of the season. During the award presentation by English football legend Gary Lineker, Drogba, serving as the master of ceremonies, playfully challenged Haaland to choose between Drogba's and Lineker's celebrations for his next goal.
Haaland accepted the challenge but kept his choice close to his chest. In his next match, the 6-1 victory over Bournemouth, Haaland did not find the back of the net, but he did score in the game against Young Boys. After converting a penalty, he celebrated by emulating Drogba's iconic hands-thrust-wide celebration as he had promised.
On the other hand, following his record eighth Ballon d'Or win, Lionel Messi expressed sympathy for Erling Haaland, who finished in second place.
