Transfer Rumors: Guimaraes' secret clause, Mourinho eyes Dier, Arsenal leads race for 'Next Iniesta,' and McTominay stays put

Posted : 16 October 2023
Reports suggest that Newcastle may face the risk of losing Bruno Guimaraes to Barcelona for a sum of £60 million. It has been revealed that the midfielder has a confidential clause in his Newcastle contract that would enable him to join Barcelona at a reduced price.

Although Guimaraes recently extended his contract with Newcastle for five years with a release clause set at £100 million, the secret clause might allow him to transfer to Barcelona for around £60 million. While Guimaraes has shown interest in the Nou Camp club in the past, the current financial situation may delay any immediate move. Nonetheless, Guimaraes appears content at St James' Park and willingly signed the long-term contract extension that safeguards his valuation.

Former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho reportedly has a desire to reunite with Eric Dier and bring the defender to Roma. Dier has yet to make an appearance for Spurs this season, leading to speculation about his future.

Mourinho, looking to bolster his defense, has singled out Dier as his top target for the position. Mourinho is renowned for having defensively resilient teams, and Roma's 12 league goals conceded this season have raised concerns. Although Dier was linked with a move away from Tottenham in the closing stages of the transfer window, he ultimately remained with the club.

In another transfer development, Arsenal is currently leading the race to sign Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren, who has earned the moniker of the "next Andres Iniesta." Several top clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona, have shown interest in the 18-year-old. The North London club, Arsenal, is said to be in pole position to secure Vermeeren's signature and might acquire him for a reasonable £17 million in the upcoming January transfer window.

Manager Mikel Arteta is facing the potential departure of Jorginho in the New Year, and Barcelona has also expressed interest in him. Barcelona is also keeping tabs on Vermeeren as they seek to find someone to continue the legacy of club legend Iniesta in the midfield at the Nou Camp. However, financial difficulties could potentially lead them to consider other options, such as Corinthians' Gabriel Moscardo.

Furthermore, Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, is not interested in allowing Scott McTominay to depart from the club in January. Despite attempts to sell him during the summer, McTominay's importance to the Reds' boss has grown significantly, particularly due to his impressive performances in training and his dedication to the club.

West Ham came close to securing a £50 million deal for McTominay, and Newcastle also expressed interest. Nevertheless, Ten Hag, having experienced a squad plagued by injuries this season, feels he cannot afford to lose another player.
