Edo Queens, winners of the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership and WAFU-B Champions, are now N100 million richer, as the state government announced the financial reward.
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, made the announcement at the grand reception organized for the team by the Edo State Government after the team triumphed in the West Africa Football Union B, CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifier in Ivory Coast over the weekend.
In his address at the ceremony, the Governor described the substantial sum as a reward for the team's exceptional performance and hard work throughout the tournament, and he congratulated them on their achievement.
He then urged the team to aim for greater success at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, noting that more rewards await them. He emphasized that the WAFU-B victory should be seen as a stepping stone for even greater accomplishments.
Edo Queens won all their matches, culminating in a brilliant team performance by defeating Ainonvi of Benin Republic 3-0 in the finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B to claim the coveted trophy.
As a result, Edo Queens have qualified for the 2024 Women’s Champions League scheduled to take place in Cairo later this year, where they can aspire to become the first Nigerian team to win the competition since its inception in 2021.
