Team Akwa United arrived in Yenagoa on Sunday evening with 36 players, along with key officials. Head coach Baba Ganaru revealed that he will use the pre-season tournament to fine-tune his team's preparations ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League.
"This is indeed a good opportunity for me and my technical team to properly assess the team we have ahead of the new season. We have brought in some fresh legs into the team and are willing to give them the opportunity in this pre-season tournament to prove that they are ready to play for this club.
"To be honest, we won’t focus solely on results; rather, our major concern will be the understanding and team cohesion in real match situations here in Yenagoa. Achieving our goals in this tournament will help us build a formidable team as we plan for the new season."
According to the organizers, each team will be allowed to make seven substitutions in the competition, which will run from Monday, August 12, to Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
