Unlike their fellow co-tenant, Doma United, who lost their match on Saturday against the rampaging Rangers International FC, Gombe United FC regained their momentum on Match Day 21 of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by venomously stinging the Tech Boys to their first defeat.
The resurgent Gombe United FC secured their goals from Lukman Balogun (45+1 min) and Taiye Yusuf (74th min), giving Gombe United a comfortable 2-0 victory over Sporting FC of Lagos in the early afternoon kick-off at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
The visitors, Sporting Lagos FC, could have drawn first blood in the 37th minute with a clear chance as Gombe United's goalkeeper fumbled his lines, and the ball fell to an onrushing Tochukwu, whose shot narrowly missed the target.
However, the Savannah Tigers responded quickly in the 45+1 minute as they took the lead from a well-worked free-kick routine.
The Savannah Scorpions then sealed the win in the 73rd minute, condemning the Tech Boys to their first defeat in three games.
