Golden Eaglets assistant coach thumbs up team in spite of loss

The Golden Eaglets' Assistant Coach Lawal Dankoli believes the U17 experience in Algeria has taught players, coaches, and administrators in Nigeria a vital lesson.
He said that the team had tried their best, but it was not enough to qualify them for a place in either the finals of the U-17 African Cup of Nations or the qualifying rounds for the World Cup.
He said, "Winning at all costs is not the right motive, but player development and tactical intelligence exposure are paramount."
Futuristically, he suggested the bulk of the players who missed the cut to qualify for the World Cup should be retained and carefully monitored by the NFF Technical Department for integration into the U-20, 23 and Super Eagles.
"This team is blessed with talents that Nigeria can be proud of in the future, so discarding them because they did not qualify will be a beginning again," he said.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that Coach Lawal Dankoli is an educated coach with experience in scouting and talent building.
