Inter Milan's sporting CEO Giuseppe Marotta will assume the role of the Serie A champions' new president on Tuesday, following his nomination by the club's new American owners, Oaktree. Marotta, known for orchestrating Inter's recent successes, will take over from the outgoing president Steven Zhang after a shareholders' meeting in Milan, where a new board will also be established.
Oaktree assumed control of Inter last month after the club secured their 20th Serie A title. This takeover occurred when the previous owners, Suning, failed to repay a three-year loan that had reached 395 million euros ($428 million). In a statement, Marotta expressed gratitude to Oaktree for their trust and acknowledged the efforts of those who have managed the club over the past three years.
Marotta, who joined Inter in 2018 under Suning and Zhang, has been pivotal in leading the team to two Serie A titles, two Italian Cups, three Italian Super Cups, and finals in both the Champions League and Europa League. Prior to his tenure at Inter, the 67-year-old enjoyed a successful eight-year stint as CEO at Juventus, during which the club experienced significant success.
