Substitute Jamie Gittens made a significant impact by scoring twice, while Serhou Guirassy converted a late penalty to give Borussia Dortmund a 3-0 victory over Club Brugge in their Champions League encounter at Jan Breydelstadion on Wednesday. Despite Brugge creating several scoring opportunities, they failed to capitalize, allowing Dortmund to secure a convincing win.
Dortmund, last year’s Champions League finalists, had some fortunate moments but managed to take the lead through Gittens. The 20-year-old English winger picked up the ball on the left side of the box, and his angled shot took two deflections before finding the far corner of the net, putting Dortmund ahead.
Gittens doubled Dortmund’s lead with a brilliant solo effort. After running at the Brugge defense, he found space to fire a low shot into the net, sealing the three points for his side. His quick, decisive play left Brugge's defense scrambling, further showcasing his potential on the European stage.
Club Brugge, however, will be disappointed with their missed chances. Hugo Vetlesen struck the crossbar when the score was still 0-0, and the team saw several penalty appeals dismissed. Their wastefulness in front of goal, particularly in the first half, cost them dearly, as Dortmund's clinical finishing made the difference.
