2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 31: Gideon, Sodiq on target, as El-Kanemi Warriors hold Shooting to 2-2 draw in Maiduguri

Posted : 28 March 2025

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan were denied maximum points on the road as El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri rallied to earn a 2-2 draw.

The 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 31 encounter, played at El-Kanemi Stadium, saw the visitors take a two-goal lead in the first half but were pegged back in the second half.

Shooting Stars' coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, made a couple of changes in his starting lineup, with Aniyikaye Adeleye starting in the heart of the defense, Adebayo Abayomi holding as the defensive midfielder, and Adams Mustapha starting up front.

The Oluyole Warriors opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Monday Gideon latched onto a pass from Ukeme Williams to slot the ball home.

Sodiq Ibrahim added the second in additional time of the first half, scoring after being set up by Daddy Abdulrahman, ensuring the Stars took a comfortable two-goal lead into the break.

The home team came out strong in the second half and were fortunate to reduce the deficit in the 50th minute after Barnabas fired in a free kick awarded close to 3SC's vital area.

The Ibadan soccer lords responded and pushed for another goal but could not find a way through. Instead, it was the home team who got the game-saving equalizer in the 79th minute through Alabi Suleiman.

The Oluyole Warriors were resolute enough to avoid conceding another goal, with goalkeeper Abiodun Akande rising to the occasion with some fantastic saves, ensuring that the Oluyole Warriors returned home with a point.

Shooting Stars remain fourth on the table with 47 points from 31 matches and will next host Ikorodu City in a Match Day 32 fixture on Sunday, April 6.
