Germany started their Women's World Cup campaign with a commanding 6-0 victory over debutants Morocco. Captain Alexandra Popp led the charge with two goals in the first half, and the team continued to dominate after the break.
Klara Buehl, Lea Schueller, and two own goals added to the scoreline, making it a comprehensive win for Germany. The result puts them at the top of Group H with three points.
Morocco, the first Arab team to compete in the women's tournament, struggled to cope with Germany's relentless attack. They showed moments of promise but couldn't breach the German defense.
Germany's early pressure paid off as Kathrin Hendrich's cross found Popp, who made no mistake in heading the ball into the net.
Despite an encouraging long-range effort from Moroccan captain Ghizlane Chebbak, Germany continued to assert their dominance.
Popp struck again from a corner, and right after halftime, Buehl capitalized on a clearance to score a spectacular goal.
Morocco's woes deepened with an own goal from defender Hanane Ait El Haj, followed by another from Zineb Redouani, who became the first player to wear a hijab in the tournament.
Lea Schueller completed the demolition in the 90th minute, sealing Germany's emphatic win.
Morocco will look to regroup for their next match against South Korea, while Germany will aim to maintain their momentum in the tournament.
