Germany's veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will miss the upcoming fixtures against Turkey and Austria due to his ongoing comeback from injury. Neuer, the Bayern Munich captain, recently returned to action after almost a year on the sidelines. Despite playing a few games for his club, he believes the upcoming international matches are too soon for his full return.
Neuer, who acknowledges Marc-Andre ter Stegen as Germany's current No. 1 goalkeeper, is focused on making a complete recovery and aiming for Euro 2024, which Germany is hosting. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel praised Neuer's performance and expressed confidence that he would regain his old strength.
Neuer emphasized that he still needs more time to fully recover from his injury, and he views any games he plays as a bonus. He is determined to contribute to his team and is committed to returning to the field next year.
Germany's coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has stated that Barcelona's Ilkay Gundogan will continue to wear the captain's armband in Neuer's absence. Nagelsmann will announce his squad for the November friendlies, and Neuer's return to the national team will have to wait for a later date.
