Gent chairman expects Gift Orban to regain peak performance
Posted : 09 November 2023
Gent Chairman Ivan De Witte remains optimistic about Gift Orban's ability to bounce back to his prolific form despite a challenging start to the season, where he has only managed to score three goals in the Jupiler Pro League. Orban, a Nigerian striker, has faced difficulties reaching the impressive heights he achieved in the previous season, resulting in him losing his spot in the starting XI.
The struggles for Orban include a goal drought of six consecutive league games, a stark contrast to his remarkable performance last season when he scored nine goals in his initial seven games. However, the 21-year-old finally ended this dry spell with a goal in Gent's recent 3-1 victory over Sporting Charleroi.
Chairman De Witte attributes Orban's recent challenges to heightened competition, especially with the resurgence of Tissoudali. Despite the setbacks, De Witte expresses confidence in Orban's potential to return to his goal-scoring best. Meanwhile, transfer speculations link Orban to clubs like Fulham and Eintracht Frankfurt, but Gent's decision on his future remains uncertain as the transfer window approaches in January.
