Galatasaray's Icardi recreates Arsenal's infamous penalty miss in Turkish Super Lig win

Galatasaray forward Mauro Icardi recreated a famous penalty miss by Thierry Henry and Robert Pires in the Turkish Super Lig on Tuesday. Icardi attempted a short pass from the spot-kick, side-footing the ball wide, despite having an open net to aim for as the Istanbulspor goalkeeper had already dived the wrong way.

This incident drew comparisons to Arsenal's 'Invincibles' duo Henry and Pires, who famously botched a similar penalty attempt in 2005.

In that historic Arsenal moment, the ball got stuck under Pires' feet as he tried to play a short pass for fellow Frenchman Henry during a match against Manchester City at Highbury. However, Icardi's embarrassment was short-lived as he managed to redeem himself by scoring a goal just five minutes later.

His goal contributed to Galatasaray's 1-0 victory against Istanbulspor, propelling them to the top of the Super Lig standings, one point ahead of Fenerbahce, who have a game in hand.
