Legendary Galatasaray midfielder Dževad Prekazi has shared his astonishment regarding Victor Osimhen's choice to join the Turkish champions. The Nigerian forward had initially aimed for a transfer to the Premier League or a return to Ligue 1 after deciding to part ways with Napoli.
Osimhen's former club had set a hefty price tag on him, complicating efforts by clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain to finalize a deal. Additionally, Napoli blocked attempts from Al-Ahli to acquire him, further solidifying their position on his transfer.
As the transfer window closed across Europe's top five leagues, Osimhen found himself sidelined from Napoli's first team, creating a window of opportunity for Galatasaray to step in. The Turkish giants ultimately secured a loan deal for the 25-year-old striker, which caught many, including Prekazi, off guard.
In an interview with TRT Spor through Cumhuriyet, Prekazi revealed his surprise at Osimhen's transfer to Galatasaray, while expressing optimism about the player’s potential impact at the club. He noted that Osimhen had shown a preference for a move to England, and the transfer fees involved with Napoli were a significant hurdle.
Prekazi remarked, “I couldn't believe Osimhen would join Galatasaray. He aimed for England, but the transfer cost was substantial.” He added, “I’m not sure how he ended up here, but it's fantastic news for us. His contributions will be invaluable; his talent speaks for itself.”
Osimhen has started the season in remarkable form, consistently contributing to his team’s offense. He has recorded six goal involvements across four matches, averaging at least one contribution per game.
Currently, Osimhen is on the mend from a muscle injury that has kept him out of action for the past two games, including a missed appearance for the Super Eagles in their Africa Cup of Nations match against Libya last Friday.
