Fulham sign ex-Arsenal and Chelsea player over Chukwueze

Posted : 04 February 2025

Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze saw his hopes of securing a move to the English Premier League fade on transfer deadline day. The Super Eagles star had been linked with a potential switch, but the deal failed to materialize before the window shut.

Fulham had been engaged in negotiations with AC Milan regarding Chukwueze’s transfer in the final hours of the January window. However, the London club ultimately shifted their focus to another option, opting not to proceed with the Nigerian international’s signing.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Fulham initially considered bringing in Chukwueze but instead decided to re-sign Willian, a player with extensive Premier League experience from his previous stints at Chelsea, Arsenal, and Fulham.

Willian, who has made 317 appearances in England’s top flight, holds the record for the most Premier League games played by a Brazilian footballer. His familiarity with the league and proven track record made him the preferred choice for Fulham.

The 36-year-old winger is making his return to the Premier League as a free agent after terminating his contract with Greek club Olympiakos in December. His arrival reunites him with Fulham manager Marco Silva, under whom he played 67 games and scored 10 goals during his previous spell at Craven Cottage.

Meanwhile, Chukwueze’s future at AC Milan remains uncertain despite being under contract until June 2028. The arrival of new attacking reinforcements, including Sergio Conceição, João Félix, and Riccardo Sottil, could limit his playing opportunities at the Serie A club.

Since joining Milan from Villarreal in July 2023, Chukwueze has made 58 appearances across all competitions, finding the net seven times. With increased competition for places, his role in the squad could be under threat in the coming months.
