Fulham's five-star show continues as they thrash West Ham 5-0

Posted : 10 December 2023

Raul Jimenez continued his remarkable resurgence, scoring another goal as Fulham delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over a lackluster West Ham at Craven Cottage, marking their second five-goal triumph in just five days.

The Mexican forward, overcoming a life-threatening skull fracture three years ago, opened the scoring with a powerful header from Joao Palhinha's cross, securing his fourth goal in five league games.

Marco Silva's team dominated the first half, with Willian adding a second from Andreas Pereira's cut-back, and Tosin Adarabioyo extending the lead with a header from a corner, out-jumping Kurt Zouma.

Fulham's dominance continued in the second half, as substitute Harry Wilson showcased his skill with a stunning left-footed shot into the top corner after being denied earlier by West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. Carlos Vinicius then completed the 5-0 victory, capitalizing on Wilson's unselfish assist. The comprehensive win lifted Fulham into the top half of the table, three points behind ninth-placed West Ham, who missed the chance to enter the Premier League's top six.

Silva praised his team's outstanding performance, stating, "It was a brilliant performance from us. The players understood the plan and executed it so well. It was almost a perfect afternoon for us."

He highlighted Raul Jimenez's impact, emphasizing the role confidence plays in the team's success. Jimenez's recent run of four goals in five Premier League games reflects his return to form, crucial for Fulham's attack, which had raised concerns just weeks ago.

While Fulham's attacking prowess has surged with 15 goals in their last four games, West Ham endured a forgettable day. David Moyes acknowledged the toll of their midweek comeback win against Tottenham, describing it as a factor in their lackluster performance.

Moyes admitted, "We used up too much energy in midweek, and we weren't able to get ourselves back. [But there is] no excuse for the result." West Ham, seeking to bounce back, faces Freiburg in their upcoming Europa League group match as they aim to secure top spot.
