Fulham nearing £18.2m deal for Ajax's Bassey, medical pending

Fulham is on the brink of securing a significant addition to their squad with the imminent signing of Ajax defender Calvin Bassey. 

The 23-year-old Nigerian, known for his versatility in both center-back and left-back positions, will undergo a medical examination at Craven Cottage as the Marco Silva-led side finalizes an £18 million deal. 

This move will mark Fulham's second major signing of the summer transfer window, following the acquisition of Raul Jimenez from Wolves for £5.5 million.

Having progressed through Leicester City's academy before moving to Rangers, Bassey's talents caught the attention of Ajax, who signed him for a club record £20 million in 2022. 

During the past season, Bassey showcased his abilities by making 39 appearances for Ajax, even featuring in their Champions League fixtures. 

His arrival at Fulham is expected to provide crucial depth and cover in the left-back position, given the departures of Joe Bryan and Shane Duffy. 

With the club's sights set on avoiding relegation battles and building on their 10th-place finish in the Premier League last season, Bassey's skill set and potential contribution will undoubtedly bolster Fulham's defensive options for the upcoming campaign.
