Fulham manager Marco Silva expressed his frustration after his team was defeated 16-15 in the League Cup's longest-ever penalty shootout by Championship side Preston North End. The match, which concluded 1-1 after regular time, saw Silva’s side dominate with 16 shots compared to Preston's seven, yet they failed to convert their opportunities, including a close attempt by Harrison Reed that struck the crossbar.
Silva, who had made 11 changes from Fulham's recent Premier League match against West Ham United, felt his team did enough in regular time to secure a victory. Despite Fulham's control of the game and the creation of numerous chances, including several dangerous crosses and close attempts, they were unable to find the net.
Reflecting on the match, Silva noted the team's dominance and the missed opportunities that contributed to the disappointing result. He highlighted that Fulham’s inability to capitalize on their chances during the 95 minutes ultimately cost them the game.
Fulham, who have drawn their last two Premier League matches 1-1, will look to bounce back when they host Newcastle United on Saturday.
