French winger Allan Saint-Maximin leaves Newcastle United for Saudi Pro League

Posted : 29 July 2023
French winger Allan Saint-Maximin has officially announced his departure from Newcastle United, expressing his deep affection for the club and its fans. The 26-year-old player is expected to join Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, which is under the ownership of the country's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the same entity that owns Newcastle.

Since joining Newcastle in August 2019 from Nice, Saint-Maximin has had an impactful tenure, scoring 13 goals in 124 games for the club. Despite the speculation of potentially leaving during challenging times, he chose to stay and play a vital role in helping the team avoid Premier League relegation, solidifying his bond with the club.

In an emotional statement on social media, Saint-Maximin expressed his deep love for Newcastle, calling it home and thanking the fans for their support. He emphasized his belief in the club, especially during difficult periods, and expressed pride in the transformation that led to Newcastle's impressive fourth-place finish last season, granting them a spot in the Champions League after a 20-year absence.

Acknowledging the club's financial situation, Newcastle's sporting director, Dan Ashworth, had previously mentioned the need to consider player sales to adhere to spending restrictions.

This has led to speculation that Saint-Maximin's transfer fee might be used to support Newcastle's Financial Fair Play compliance. H

owever, Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, has asserted that the anticipated transfer to Saudi Arabia will meet Premier League regulations, with the league's chief executive, Richard Masters, affirming the strength of their rules.

While leaving Newcastle, Saint-Maximin will always cherish his time with the club and continue supporting it even from a different team. His contributions and passion for the club have left a lasting impact, making him an integral part of Newcastle's recent success and growth.
