French clubs target Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom
Posted : 06 July 2023
Chuba Akpom, the Middlesbrough striker, has attracted interest from two French Ligue 1 clubs, RC Lens and LOSC Lille, who are considering him as a potential replacement for their departing forwards, Jonathan David and Loïs Openda.
Both David and Openda have been linked with transfers away from their respective clubs, with David drawing interest from Manchester United and Juventus, and Openda potentially heading to RB Leipzig.
Lille and Lens have identified Akpom, along with Arsenal's Folarin Balogun and KAA Gent's Gift Orban, as potential candidates to replace David.
Akpom enjoyed the best season of his career in 2022-2023, scoring 29 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.
His outstanding performances earned him the Championship Player of the Season award at the EFL awards, as well as Middlesbrough's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year titles.
Akpom, a product of Arsenal's Hale End Academy, is currently under contract with Middlesbrough until June 2024 after the club activated a one-year option to extend his deal.
