France roars back to defeat Scotland in thrilling friendly match

In a thrilling friendly encounter, the star-studded French squad showcased their mettle as they roared back from an early deficit to hand Scotland a heavy defeat. The match, played in Lille, saw a much-changed Scottish team take the lead thanks to an unexpected gift from Eduardo Camavinga, whose passback allowed Billy Gilmour to score his first senior goal.
 
However, this served as a wake-up call for the French, who quickly responded with a leveling goal. Benjamin Pavard, the Inter Milan defender, was the hero, heading in a second goal, benefiting from Kylian Mbappe's incredible burst of pace.
 
Mbappe continued to make his mark by adding a third goal before halftime, converting a penalty after a VAR review found Liam Cooper guilty of bringing down Olivier Giroud in the box. The French onslaught didn't stop there as Kingsley Coman completed the scoring in the second half, with a thunderous half-volley following a rebound from Griezmann's close-range effort.
 
Despite a jubilant Euro 2024 qualification just two days earlier, the Scottish team showed resilience, even with eight changes to their lineup. They demonstrated spells of possession and glimpses of attacking prowess, with Jacob Brown and Stuart Armstrong testing French keeper Mike Maignan.
 
However, the speed and precision of the French team were too much for the Scots to handle on this occasion. Although Steven Thompson's initial "ha-ha" reaction to Gilmour's opener might have captured the nation's disbelief, the quickfire double from Pavard and Mbappe's penalty quickly brought the Scots back to reality.
 
It could have been an even tougher lesson for Scotland had Ousmane Dembele or Pavard found the back of the net with their opportunities in the first half. Ultimately, the French side added gloss to their victory with Coman's thumping finish, showcasing their dominance in this exhilarating encounter.
