Four Super Eagles players who have played for Galatasaray

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is on the verge of joining Galatasaray for a four-month stint, pending the finalization of minor details. This move comes after his anticipated transfer to Chelsea fell through, and he declined an offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli.


Osimhen's temporary move to Galatasaray offers him an opportunity to remain sharp and active. Over the past three decades, several Nigerian players have played for Galatasaray. While some have made notable contributions, others have had less impact.


Here are highlights of four notable Super Eagles players who have played for Galatasaray:


1. Dominic Iorfa
Retired Super Eagles striker Dominic Iorfa had a varied career, with one of his stops being Galatasaray during the 1991/92 Turkish Super Lig season. Iorfa scored three goals in nine appearances for the club before moving on to English side Peterborough. He earned 21 caps for Nigeria’s national team during his career.


2. Valentine Ozornwafor
Valentine Ozornwafor made a significant move in 2019 by joining Galatasaray from Enyimba of the Nigeria Premier Football League. Although he was a standout player in Nigeria, his time in Turkey was less successful. Ozornwafor was loaned out to Almeria and later to Royal Charleroi. He made only one appearance for Galatasaray in three years and is currently without a club.


3. Oghenekaro Peter Etebo
Etebo joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan in 2020 due to a lack of playing time at Stoke City. He was a reliable performer for Galatasaray, making 29 appearances. Despite his contributions, Galatasaray chose not to make the move permanent, and Etebo returned to his parent club before eventually signing with Genclerbirligi in Turkey’s second division.


4. Henry Onyekuru 
Henry Onyekuru stands out as the most successful Super Eagles player at Galatasaray. His tenure at the club included three loan spells, during which he made a significant impact. Onyekuru scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 71 appearances. He also won both the Turkish Super Lig and the League Cup, earning a place in the hearts of Galatasaray fans.
