Former Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala has taken on the role of interim coach for Kortrijk, stepping in after the dismissal of Glen De Boeck as the head coach.
Kortrijk has faced a challenging season, currently sitting at the bottom of the Belgian Jupiler League with just two wins in 16 games, having lost ten and drawn four. Their recent struggles include a six-game winless streak, with their last victory occurring in October against Club Brugge.
The decision to replace Coach De Boeck was made following Kortrijk's 1-0 loss to RWB Molenbeek on Tuesday. The club confirmed Akpala's appointment through a statement on their X page, designating him as the interim coach.
This marks the third time Akpala has served as an interim manager in the last six months. He initially took on the role before the season began, then served temporarily after Still's appointment. Despite leading the team to victory against Cercle Brugge in a one-game stint, he returned to his assistant position when De Boeck was appointed.
With De Boeck's departure, Kortrijk hopes Akpala can bring positive results. If the 37-year-old achieves success in the upcoming game against KVC Westerlo, he may secure the coaching position on a permanent basis.
