Former Super Eagles goalies make case for Adebayo Adeleye as Team's first choice goalkeeper

As concerns grow over the goalkeeping crisis in Nigeria's national team, the Super Eagles, with increasing daily calls for fresh faces between the sticks, some ex-internationals have added their voices, advocating for a change of guard.
The latest to join the calls for change were the trio of former Super Eagles goalkeepers: Abiodun Baruwa, Dele Aiyenugba, and Dosu Joseph. They all concluded that giving another goalkeeper a chance to man the post is the only way to solve the problem.
The trio made their submissions after watching the Eagles battle to a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in last Sunday's World Cup qualifier in Rwanda, a result that jeopardizes Nigeria's hope of qualifying for the mundial.
Baruwa, Aiyenugba, and Dosu, in separate interviews, all called on Super Eagles' coach, Jose Pesseiro, to give Hapoel Jerusalem's safe hands, Adebayo Adeleye, a chance to prove his mettle.
Baruwa, in his words, said, "I believe there is nothing wrong with giving another goalkeeper a chance when there is a problem with the one you are using. We have seen enough of Francis Uzoho, and I think it is time the coach gives a goalkeeper like Adebayo Adeleye a chance to prove himself."
Corroborating the views of the former Shooting Stars' goalkeeper, Kwara United goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba stated the need for an urgent change in the goalkeeping department to save the Eagles.
"The coach should make up his mind now and heed calls for a change. We have someone like Adebayo Adeleye who is doing well with his club; why not give him a chance, and let's see what he can offer."
The former Enyimba FC of Aba goaltender opined that the situation could still be salvaged but urged that the right step be taken in terms of selection, particularly in the goalkeeping department.
Atlanta Olympic gold medallist Dosu Joseph said that at present, Adebayo Adeleye is in good form and therefore deserves to be given a chance as the Super Eagles' first choice.
"If Uzoho is not doing well, which can happen to any player, then let the coach look elsewhere and bring in a replacement. I am personally of the opinion that giving Adeleye a chance to prove himself will be the best decision for the coach," hinted the ex-Julius Berger goalkeeper.
