Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has expressed his support for Elijah Adebayo, who is eligible to play for the Super Eagles, suggesting that he could secure a move to the Premier League if Luton Town faces relegation.
Initially, Adebayo struggled to find his footing in the English top-flight, managing only two goals in his first 14 games. However, he hit a rich vein of form in December, scoring seven goals in his next nine matches, including memorable strikes against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea, as well as securing his first hat-trick in a victory over Brighton in January.
His impressive performances earned him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month award in January and put him in contention for a spot in the Super Eagles squad for matches against Ghana and Mali in March, but an injury setback prevented his inclusion.
Adebayo's injury sidelined him for 11 league games, and he only returned to action towards the end of last month, featuring as a substitute in Luton Town's defeat to Wolves at the Molineux.
However, he made a significant impact upon his return to the starting lineup last weekend, scoring his team's sole goal in a 1-1 draw with Everton, a performance that caught Sherwood's attention.
Impressed by Adebayo's display against Everton, Sherwood believes that the Anglo-Nigerian forward has the potential to secure a move to a Premier League club if Luton Town faces relegation.
Sherwood's comments reflect the belief that Adebayo's talent and recent performances could attract interest from top-flight clubs, providing him with an opportunity to continue his career in the Premier League.
