Former NWFL star provides assist in competitive debut for Napoli

Posted : 30 September 2024

Napoli welcomed Olamide Adugbe to their squad, and just a day later, the former NWFL Premiership star made her competitive debut for the Italian club. Her transfer to Napoli was finalized in time for her to participate in the Serie A match against AS Roma on matchday four.

Adugbe, a product of the Rivers Angels, played her first game in the Serie A Femminile as Napoli faced a tough challenge against defending champions AS Roma. The match took place at the Stadio Tre Fontane in Rome, where Napoli unfortunately fell short, losing 3-1 to their rivals.

Wearing the number 17 jersey, Adugbe entered the game as a substitute in the 58th minute, taking over from Manuela Sciabica. At that point, Napoli was already trailing, having conceded three goals to AS Roma, with Evelyne Viens scoring one and Manuela Giugliano netting two.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Adugbe made an impact when she assisted Michela Giordano in the 80th minute, helping to reduce Napoli's deficit. However, the team was unable to mount a significant comeback.

Born in 2003, Adugbe faced an eventful debut, receiving a yellow card just three minutes after stepping onto the pitch. This early caution showcased the intensity of the match and the pressure of competing at this level.

After four matches in the Serie A Femminile, Napoli sits in seventh place out of ten teams, with just three points from their first four games. Adugbe will be looking to help improve her team's standing as the season progresses.

Looking ahead, Adugbe is set to make her home debut for Napoli on Sunday, October 6, when they face AC Milan in the league. She will hope to build on her initial performance and contribute more significantly to her new team.
