Sinan Engin, a former Besiktas midfielder, has publicly criticized Victor Osimhen following Galatasaray's 2-1 loss to Besiktas on Saturday. Engin expressed concerns over Osimhen’s performance, especially in high-stakes matches, questioning the Nigerian striker's ability to make an impact in crucial games.
Osimhen, who is on loan to Galatasaray from Napoli, played the entire 90 minutes of the match but was unable to lead his team to victory. His lackluster performance contributed to Galatasaray’s first defeat in the Turkish Super Lig, ending their unbeaten streak.
The performance has not gone unnoticed, with Engin specifically challenging Osimhen's ability to perform when the stakes are highest. Engin voiced his doubts about the striker's credentials in big games, criticizing his inability to deliver in critical moments.
In an appearance on the Assist Analysis YouTube channel, Engin made a bold statement about Osimhen’s worth in relation to his performances in key games. He compared Osimhen’s value to that of Portuguese player Rafa Silva, claiming that if Osimhen was worth 75 million Euros, he himself would be worth 100 million Euros.
Engin also took aim at Galatasaray’s heavy reliance on Osimhen, suggesting that the team’s performance falters when the striker does not perform at his best. He emphasized the importance of Osimhen rediscovering his goal-scoring form, especially in decisive encounters.
Despite Engin's harsh words, Osimhen’s contributions to Galatasaray’s title defense cannot be overlooked. In 23 league appearances, Osimhen has scored 20 goals and provided 4 assists, helping the team maintain a six-point lead over Fenerbahce.
However, Osimhen’s record in matches against Turkey’s top teams has been disappointing, with only one goal scored in encounters with Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Trabzonspor. With eight matches remaining in the season, Osimhen will be determined to prove his critics wrong and deliver in key fixtures as Galatasaray pushes for the Super Lig title.
