Forest Green Rovers have emerged as the latest contender in the Football League vying for the signature of Tariq Uwakwe, a talented midfielder of Nigerian heritage and former England youth international.
Recent reports indicate that both Stevenage and Salford City were initially engaged in talks to secure a permanent transfer for Uwakwe.
In the latest development on Wednesday, it has been revealed that Salford City and Forest Green Rovers are now competing to secure the services of the former Chelsea prodigy during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite having only nine days remaining on his contract with Crewe Alexandra, the club is actively pursuing a contract extension with Uwakwe, aiming to retain him for the next season.
Forest Green Rovers, currently in the League Two after facing relegation, are determined to promptly regain their position in the English football's third tier.
In pursuit of this objective, the club has set its sights on recruiting Uwakwe, recognizing his versatility as a player who can proficiently perform in various positions such as fullback, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, and wingback.
Uwakwe joined Crewe Alexandra in January 2022 and has since amassed an impressive record of 48 appearances, contributing to the team's success with six goal involvements, comprising one goal and five assists.
