NK Istra 1961 is preparing to add two young Nigerian players to their team for the upcoming season.
One of the players is Salim Fago Lawal, a center forward born in 2003, who played a crucial role in Nigeria's squad at the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Lawal started in all five matches played by the Flying Eagles during the tournament in Argentina and even scored a header in a 2-0 victory over Italy.
Known for his physicality, speed, and ability in the air, Lawal currently plays for Mavlon FC.
The identity of the second Nigerian player heading to Istra has not been disclosed by the Croatian newspaper, as he is a minor.
However, it is mentioned that he will soon turn 18 and plays either as a number 6 or holding midfielder.
Described as tall and technically adept, he possesses promising qualities.
NK Istra 1961 sees Lawal as a potential replacement for Monsef Bakrar, a former Algerian U21 striker who has been linked with a transfer to Croatian champions Dinamo.
