Flamingos Drawn Bye in First Round

Posted : 12 December 2024

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team has been given a bye in the First Round of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the draw for the qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday.

The Flamingos, who reached the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, will begin their qualification journey in the Second Round.

Bankole Olowookere’s side will face the winner of the First Round match between South Africa and Gabon in March 2025.

The winners of the Second Round games will advance to the Third Round, where the four teams that will represent Africa will be determined in April 2025.

Nigeria and Ghana hold Africa’s best performances at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, with both teams having won bronze medals at the competition.

Nigeria was the only African team to reach the quarterfinals of the last edition of the tournament in the Dominican Republic this year.
