Nigeria's head coach Finidi George is considering the possibility of inviting more dual national players to join the Super Eagles.
Reflecting on Nigeria's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, many players had the option to represent other countries but chose to play for the three-time African champions.
Under former president Amaju Pinnick, the Nigeria Football Federation successfully recruited high-profile players like Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, and William Troost-Ekong.
Nigerian fans are eager to see players like Crystal Palace's Michael Olise, Chelsea's Lesley Ugochukwu, Fiorentina's Michael Kayode, and Atlético Madrid's loanee Samuel Omorodion, who have excelled at their clubs, pledge their allegiance to the Super Eagles.
While Olise and Ugochukwu are provisionally cap-tied to France, Kayode and Omorodion have represented Italy and Spain respectively in competitive matches for youth teams.
Finidi disclosed that he intends to approach some of these dual national players to gauge their interest in playing for the Super Eagles, but stressed that formal procedures would need to be followed for a change of association.
"There are certain protocols that must be followed. We cannot simply recruit a Nigerian player from these clubs without proper procedures," stated Finidi during a media briefing.
"Our responsibility is to identify talent, and if we identify a player who can contribute, we will make recommendations to the NFF, who will handle the necessary paperwork and procedures."
Finidi plans to introduce one or two new faces to the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
