Nigeria's coach Finidi George is closely monitoring the fitness of Fenerbahce's Bright Osayi-Samuel ahead of the Super Eagles' 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June, as reported by allnigeriasoccer.com.
According to regulations, Finidi, via the Nigeria Football Federation, must inform the European-based players selected for the June internationals at least fifteen days before the South Africa game, or risk clubs not releasing the players to the NFF.
Osayi-Samuel's participation in both World Cup qualifiers is now in doubt after sustaining an injury during Fenerbahce's match against Konyaspor on May 6th.
Following the injury, the Nigerian player underwent an MRI scan which revealed bleeding in his right ankle, prompting concerns about his availability for the upcoming matches.
Osayi-Samuel has commenced rehabilitation, but his availability for Fenerbahce's final three matches of the season against Kayserispor, Galatasaray, and Istanbulspor remains uncertain.
The injury list for the Super Eagles also includes Zaidu Sanusi, Tyronne Ebuehi, William Troost-Ekong, and Moses Simon, adding to the challenge ahead of Finidi's first squad announcement.
There are further worries about the fitness of left-back Jamilu Collins, who has missed Cardiff City's last three Championship games, potentially leaving Nigeria with defensive concerns for the upcoming qualifiers.
Nigeria is scheduled to face South Africa in Uyo on June 7th before taking on Benin in Abidjan on matchday four.
