Chelsea, an English Premier League team, appears unlikely to pursue a transfer for Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray striker and Super Eagles star, during the upcoming winter transfer window. Despite strong links throughout the summer, the club was unable to meet the €130 million release clause set by Napoli, leading to Osimhen joining Galatasaray on a loan deal for the season.
According to sources at Football Insider, Chelsea maintains an interest in Osimhen but is not expected to make a formal approach when the transfer window opens in January. The club will likely hold off on any attempts to sign him until next summer, primarily due to concerns regarding Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules.
During the summer, Chelsea aimed to acquire a top-tier striker to improve their performance in the attacking third, with Osimhen being their main target. They also explored options like Porto striker Samu Omorodion but ultimately settled on a loan for Osimhen.
Although Nicolas Jackson has been scoring for Chelsea this season, the club's management seeks a player capable of consistently netting 20 goals each season—something they believe Osimhen can achieve.
As for Osimhen’s future at Napoli, a permanent departure seems likely, particularly since his loan deal includes a break clause valued at £68 million, which was negotiated before his move to Turkey.
While a transfer to Chelsea appears plausible, various factors hinder the possibility, including Financial Fair Play regulations and sustainability guidelines. Since Todd Boehly's acquisition of the club in 2022, Chelsea has spent over a billion pounds on player signings, resulting in financial imbalances that complicate the prospect of acquiring Osimhen and affording his high wages.
With Chelsea’s chances of securing Osimhen looking slim, other clubs might try to attract him in January. However, there are currently no indications that other major European clubs are pursuing him, which leaves Chelsea in a relatively secure position regarding their interest in the player.
