Fifth and final offer to purchase club made by Qatari financier Sheikh Jassim

Posted : 07 June 2023
According to a reliable source close to the Qatari banker, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani recently submitted his fifth bid to acquire Manchester United. The source also revealed that this would be Sheikh Jassim's final offer, as he intends to cease any further involvement in the process after Friday.

The proposed bid entails the acquisition of 100% ownership of the club and includes provisions to clear Manchester United's existing debt. Furthermore, the offer includes a separate fund dedicated to the club's development and the local community.

Another prominent contender vying to purchase the Premier League club is Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group.

Recent figures from March disclosed that Manchester United's total outstanding financial obligations amounted to £969.6 million, comprising various forms of debt, bank loans, and unpaid transfer fees.

The Glazer family, who are currently the club's owners, publicly announced their consideration of selling Manchester United back in November. They expressed their intentions to explore strategic alternatives for the future of the club.

Despite the passing of the bid deadline on 28 April, the Glazer family has remained silent without providing any response. However, throughout May, there has been a growing sense of confidence within the Ineos camp that their endeavors to acquire Manchester United would prove fruitful.

It has been revealed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has proposed a potential adjustment in his acquisition plan. Originally aiming to purchase 69% of the Glazer stake, Ratcliffe now suggests a reduction to just over 50%. This modification would allow co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer to retain some level of involvement in the club.

Nevertheless, no indications have been given as to when the Glazer family will make a final decision regarding the future direction of Manchester United. The family initially acquired the club for £790 million back in 2005 and has since appraised its value to be between £5 billion and £6 billion.
