FIFA Opens Voting for The Best Football Awards 2024 with New Categories

Posted : 29 November 2024

FIFA has officially opened voting for the ninth edition of The Best FIFA Football Awards™, inviting fans to participate in selecting winners across multiple categories. For the first time, fans can vote for The Best FIFA Men’s 11 and The Best FIFA Women’s 11, marking a significant expansion of their involvement.

Additionally, a new FIFA Marta Award has been introduced to honor the best goal scored in women’s football, complementing the established FIFA Puskás Award, which recognizes the best goal in men’s football.

The voting process will incorporate input from fans, national team captains and coaches, and media representatives for key categories such as The Best FIFA Men’s Player, The Best FIFA Women’s Player, The Best FIFA Men’s Coach, The Best FIFA Women’s Coach, and both goalkeeper awards.

Fans will also have exclusive control over the FIFA Fan Award, while the FIFA Fair Play Award will be decided by an expert panel. For the new FIFA Marta Award and the FIFA Puskás Award, voting will be equally weighted between fans and a panel of FIFA Legends.

A major highlight of this year’s awards is the fan voting for the Men’s and Women’s 11, where voters can select players from a list of 77 nominees, including goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards.

Fans can build their ideal teams using pre-set tactical formations, with votes equally weighted alongside those from an expert panel. Voting is now live on FIFA.com and will remain open until 23:59 CET on December 10, 2024. Detailed voting rules are available on the FIFA Digital Hub.

This year’s nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Player include Aitana Bonmatí, Barbra Banda, Keira Walsh, and Salma Paralluelo, while Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappé feature among The Best FIFA Men’s Player candidates.

Notable coaching nominees include Emma Hayes, Sonia Bompastor, and Pep Guardiola, while goalkeeper nominees include Mary Earps, Alyssa Naeher, Emiliano Martínez, and Ederson. This edition promises to celebrate excellence in football with expanded fan engagement and recognition of achievements across both men’s and women’s competitions.
