Federico Gatti, a defender for Juventus, sustained a calf bone fracture during Saturday’s 1-0 Serie A victory over Genoa, the club confirmed in a statement. The injury occurred in the first half when Gatti collided with Genoa striker Andrea Pinamonti, who missed the ball and inadvertently kicked Gatti's leg.
Italian media reports suggest that the 26-year-old could be sidelined for up to a month as he recovers from the injury.
Juventus announced that tests revealed a compound fracture to the diaphysis of Gatti’s fibula. Following the incident, Pinamonti expressed his apologies on social media, offering his condolences for Gatti’s injury and wishing him a speedy recovery.
"I am so sorry for your injury, I wish you a speedy recovery and that you can return to the field as soon as possible," Pinamonti wrote on Instagram.
In the wake of his injury, Gatti expressed his determination to recover as quickly as possible, remaining committed to supporting his teammates during this critical phase of the season.
Juventus, currently in fifth place and just one point behind fourth-placed Bologna, will face Roma on Sunday in their continued push for a top-four finish and a Champions League qualification spot.
