The maiden edition of the Nigeria Ex-Internationals Cup, organized by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), concluded with FC Nwosu defeating FC Ekpo 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in the regulation 90 minutes.
The final match, held at Onikan Stadium in Lagos, featured two legendary former Nigerian number 10 footballers, Coach Henry Nwosu and Coach Friday Ekpo.
32 ex-international football teams participated in the month-long soccer fiesta.
The competition, which will become an annual event, aimed to develop young players to a high standard for their future football careers and for the nation as a whole.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, former Super Eagles number 10 star player Friday Ekpo, whose team finished second in the encounter, expressed appreciation to the LSFA for organizing the competition.
He believed that the competition provided a platform for ex-internationals to relive their football experiences, reunite, and give back to society and the younger generation through grassroots development.
Ekpo also thanked Hon. Kunle Soname for providing a substantial sum of five million naira for the tournament and expressed gratitude to other stakeholders for their support in making the competition a success.
He said, "I thank all ex-internationals, Owu Sports Wears, and other sponsors of the competition. I also congratulate Henry Nwosu on his victory."
"I cannot forget to thank the FA chairman, his staff, the media, and the spectators for contributing to the huge success of the ex-internationals' game."
