Fans beg Abia State Govt. to provide team bus for club

Posted : 26 July 2024

Ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season, fans of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia have expressed sadness over the current state of the club's team bus, describing it as unfit for a club of Abia Warriors FC's status.

A cross-section of the fans stated that other football clubs in the country can boast of good vehicles that transport their players and officials to match venues, but the same cannot be said for Abia Warriors FC.

The fans criticized the current state of the bus used to transport the players, describing it as a vehicle that is not roadworthy.

Samson Ubani, an ardent supporter of Abia Warriors FC, expressed dismay over the condition of the team bus.

“It’s pathetic that Abia Warriors FC is still using this rickety bus, which doesn’t match their status in the league. The bus often leaves the players stranded on the road because it’s old and not roadworthy.

"I plead with the Abia State government to provide them with at least two new coaster buses to help the players and officials perform better."

Another fan of the club, Obioma Igwillo, expressed sympathy for the players, who travel by road in a dilapidated vehicle.

"In fact, I’ve seen the bus they use to travel, and I can describe it as 'Molu-weh'. It’s unfair for these players to be seen in such a vehicle.

"I keep wondering why the team hasn’t been given a better one. Sometimes, I see the bus breaking down on the road, which is embarrassing. I just hope and pray that the state government will assist them with new vehicles for optimal performance."

It is worth noting that the vehicles Abia Warriors FC is using were previously provided by the outgoing administration and are currently in poor condition, with players frequently complaining about discomfort while traveling.

It is hoped that the pleas of the players will be heard by the Abia State government, the sole financiers of the club, to provide at least a 32-seater coaster bus (for the players), a Sienna vehicle or a 14-seater bus (for technical officials), and a saloon car (for the head coach) before the league kicks off in August 2024.
