Exclusive: NPFL highest goal scorer is my dream come true - Chukwuemeka Obioma

"I worked for it because it has been my dream to emerge as the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Highest Goal Scorer." 

These were the words of the 2022/2023 NPFL Enyimba International FC's golden boy, Chukwuemeka Obioma after receiving his award on Sunday night.

Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that Obioma emerged the Highest Goal Scorer of the 2022/2023 NPFL with 16 goals from 20 matches.

Obioma joins the NPFL league of Highest Goal Scorers such as last season's highest goal poacher, Godwin Obaje of Wikki Tourist, Mfom Udoh, Akwa United FC, Jude Aneke, Ikorodu United, Victor Namo, Kano Pillars, Junior Lokosa, Kano Pillars, Ibrahim Sunusi, Nasarawa United, Anthony Okpotu, Lobi Stars among others.

Excited Obioma in an interview with ASN said he first dreamt about the honour before achieving it.

"I first dreamt about winning the award before achieving the feat.

"I thank God for seeing me through this journey because it's not an easy one, people think because we played abridged league, then it is simple, that is not correct.

"This Super 6 playoff has been tough on us, we had to fight to the last day to win the league because we didn't have much time to rest.

"I can also say that I got the award through the help of my colleagues who have helped me achieve this feat and also my coach who was once a player himself," he said.

Obioma said that Enyimba International FC deserved to be the champions of the 2022/2023 NPFL.

"We deserve to be the champions because we worked for it. We never doubted our ability even when things seemed not to be going in our favour.

"The team is resilient and hardworking with good technical crew, we know our coach who is strict and disciplined, we are champions because we have worked hard.

"Next season, we will be playing in the CAF Champions League, which I am sure that we will put in our best to make Nigeria proud," he said.

Enyimba International FC was crowned champions of the 2022/2023 NPFL on Sunday after playing a 1-1 draw with Rivers United and ending the Super 6 playoffs with nine points.
