In an exclusive interview with Africa Sport Network (ASN), Mensah highlighted his experiences so far in the Armenian league.
“I’ve been here for about five years, and the experience has been great. I have been able to surpass the few challenges I have had. When I came to Alashkert, the initial coach was so good to me, but when the next coach came in, it seemed as though he was not interested in giving me games to play. It has been challenging. But generally, I love it here, at least for now,” Mensah said.
Speaking about his relationship with Julien C. Briquez, his agent, Mensah said that they met during a tournament in Accra, Ghana.
“After the tournament, he called me, saying that he was impressed by my playing style. He then arranged to take me to Spain to sign a contract. But at that time, I had some visa issues, so I could not go then.”
Regarding his goals and aspirations at Alashkert, Annan Mensah said:
“Right now, in the league table, we are in fifth position. So, my desire is to help the club achieve big things and become better for myself as well.”
Mensah also spoke about his affiliation with some European clubs that are looking to sign him, noting that his agent has been in contact with them, so that they can negotiate a good deal.
“When we went to play in the Europa League, these clubs, S. C. Braga and one other, took interest in me and contacted me. I asked them to contact Julien, who is in the best position to give us a good deal. I also asked them to wait for my contract with Alashkert to end in June before I move.”
Speaking about his playing skills and assets, Mensah believes strongly in himself and what he brings to the table.
“I consider myself very focused. I am a very good dribbler. I can confidently say that I am good with the ball. I tackle well too. I can play well in any field position I find myself. In the game, I make sure I do my best to help my club win. I also motivate my teammates whenever we play.”
When asked how he balances his football career with his personal life, Mensah said that family is a priority for him, and he makes sure to make time for them.
“I’m the one taking care of my family, so I am always available to respond to their needs whenever they need me. Family is a priority for me. I do my best on the field, and I do my best at home.”
Sharing the lessons he had learnt as a footballer so far, Mensah also advised aspiring footballers to keep working hard on their game and not give up on their dreams.
“I train hard and motivate myself always. I don’t believe in giving up. If football is something you love and want to make your profession, then work hard on your game and never give up on your dreams.”
