Ex-West Brom defender calls Super Eagles star Manchester City-bound

Posted : 19 February 2025

Former West Bromwich Albion defender Ifeanyi Udeze has strongly advised Super Eagles star Ola Aina to take advantage of any potential offer from Manchester City this summer. Udeze believes that a move to the Premier League champions would be a significant opportunity for Aina, especially after his impressive performances for Nottingham Forest.

Aina, 28, has been a standout figure for Forest since joining the club on a free transfer from Torino in July 2023. His current contract, initially for one year, has been extended, but it is set to expire at the end of the season. While Forest has the option to trigger a one-year extension, speculation regarding his future continues to grow.

Manchester City, who recently loaned out Kyle Walker to AC Milan, are reportedly interested in Aina as a potential replacement. Given the chance to play for an elite club like City, Udeze strongly believes Aina should leave Forest. “If I’m Aina and a club like Manchester City comes for me, I will leave,” Udeze commented, urging the defender to seize such an opportunity.

The former Super Eagles defender went on to heap praise on Aina, calling him the best right-back in the Premier League this season. Udeze’s admiration stems from Aina’s consistent performances, which have been pivotal in Forest’s strong campaign, keeping them in the hunt for a top-four finish in the league.

Aina has impressed in both defensive and attacking roles for Forest, contributing two goals and one assist in 25 league appearances so far. His solid performances have highlighted his ability to perform under pressure, showcasing his importance to the team. With the season nearing its end, his future looks uncertain, but his performances have certainly drawn attention from potential suitors.

Having come through Chelsea’s renowned Cobham academy, Aina has gained significant Premier League experience with clubs like Hull City, Fulham, and now Nottingham Forest. His versatility, work rate, and tactical understanding make him an invaluable asset for both club and country, and it’s clear that bigger clubs are keeping an eye on his development.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Aina’s future remains a subject of much speculation. With interest from top clubs like Manchester City, his next career move could be a defining one, and Udeze’s advice might influence his decision-making process in the coming months.
