Ex-Super Eagles defender's son shines during West Brom trial
Posted : 22 August 2023
Ruben Shakpoke, the son of former Super Eagles fullback Jero Shakpoke, is leaving a positive impression during his trial at West Brom in the Championship.
The young striker is seeking a new club after being released by Aston Villa at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season.
Shakpoke is currently training with West Brom, aiming to secure a contract after a challenging period at Aston Villa where injuries limited his playing time.
Despite his time at Aston Villa not yielding a first-team appearance, Shakpoke is determined to make a fresh start. He recently contributed to West Brom's Premier League 2 victory over his former club Aston Villa with a 3-0 win and was also involved in their Monday clash against Blackburn Rovers, scoring a goal to level the score at 2-2.
Wearing the number 9 jersey, Shakpoke's performance led to his substitution at the start of the second half in the match.
Prior to joining Aston Villa on a scholarship in 2020, he was a youth player at Norwich City.
